Srinagar 17 Apr : Search operation to retrieve the bodies of three persons including a father and son from Jhelum river resumed early morning on Wednesday.
As per the news agency CNS, the rescue operation, which began after a boat carrying around 19 persons submerged in Jhelum river near Soiteng in Srinagar outskirts, was called off yesterday late night due to darkness.
In the tragedy, six persons drowned to death and ten others survived. However, as per locals, three individuals are still missing and are presumed to be dead.
To fish out the bodies, teams of SDRF, NDRF, Police, Army besides other individuals having expertise in recovering the corpses from water, have been in full swing to culminate the operation.
“The rescue operation is currently going at multiple spots in river Jhelum and suspected locations are being thoroughly scoured so that the bodies of persons, who went missing after the capsizing of the boat, could be retrieved,” said an official.
The bodies of persons who are yet to be recovered from Jhelum include a man Showkat Ahmad Sheikh son of Abdul Gani and two school children — Hazik Showkat son of Showkat Ahmad and Farhan Waseem Parray — all residents of Gandbal, Srinagar.
